PATRICIA ESPINOSA is a Mexican-born artist based in Brooklyn, New York.
After a successful career in the Design & New Media Industries producing and directing award-winning projects for the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the United Nations, Patricia joined the Art Students League of New York in 2001 and started her Fine Art training and studies. In 2011 she received the Joseph Bartnikowski Award and by 2013 had her first solo show at Soho20-Chelsea. Patricia continues exhibiting her work nationwide and has had several group and solo shows in Canada, Germany, and Mexico: most recently at Casa de la Cultura–Puebla in March 2022, and at El Clemente in NYC, in April 2022.
Patricia is the creator of Loteria: Luck Talks (La Suerte Que Habla) a game and exhibition inspired by the traditional Mexican game of La Lotería. In 2015 the University of Toronto purchased a set of prints for its library Print Collection. The following year, the game set was acquired by the National Museum of Mexican Art in Chicago for its permanent collection and included in ¡LOTERIA! Un Mundo de Imágenes, a commemorative publication sponsored by the Mexican Government. Her work has been featured in ArtNet News, Noticiero Telemundo, Buzzfeed, Journal Frankfurt, Leviatán, and Leonardo.
Alongside her work as an artist, Patricia has also worked with non-profit organizations like the L&L Fund and Sing For Hope; both organizations strive to uplift people in need through the power of art and creativity.
Born and raised in Mexico City, Patricia was nourished by the vibrancy, passion and joie de vivre of Mexican culture. Her work conveys an emotional feeling born and inspired by her native country as a land of contrasts. She spent her early years in Germany and later attended a German school in Mexico City with a rather rigid and disciplined work ethic. It was that day-to-day contrast that shaped her personality and to this day influences her development as an artist. In 2016 Patricia returned to Germany and founded ALAS – Atelier and Art Space, an independent space in Frankfurt that served as her working space and curatorial practice. ALAS (Spanish for wings) showcased and promoted rising international artists, providing residencies and exhibition opportunities. In 2021 she revived it in New York, now as ALAS – Artelier, an artist collective fusing art with community.
She works, lives, and loves life in Brooklyn New York.
